The cinema is a hot topic in Brentwood but there is some good news – a brand new IMAX cinema is opening only 9 miles from the centre,
It will open at the Festival Leisure Park in Basildon next month and the first film to be shown will be the exciting Jurassic World.
After a successful year, the Empire Cinema’s owners have decided it is now time for the IMAX empire to arrive in Basildon with the opening of the new screen.
IMAX is an acronym for Image MAXimum – it is a format of cinema projection that records images at far much bigger sizes and better resolutions, so allowing the customer to feel as if they are more immersed in the film rather than looking in from outside.
The IMAX boom has seen the system spread across 62 countries with over 900 IMAX cinemas all over the world.
Matthew Chambers, centre manager at Festival Leisure Park, said: “It is very exciting that Empire Cinemas have decided to invest in an IMAX screen, watching big blockbuster films on an IMAX will be a fantastic experience.”
Phil Peirce, general manager at Empire Cinemas Festival Leisure Park, added: “Opening an IMAX at Empire will be great for our customers as they will now no longer need to travel further afield for the IMAX experience.”
And Justin Ribbons, CEO of Empire Cinemas, stated: “IMAX transformed our flagship Empire Leicester Square Cinema for a new generation of moviegoers with an immersive experience that we’re pleased to bring to our audience in Basildon.
“As we expand our circuit, we’re continuously investing in our theatres to make sure all aspects of our experience are truly compelling.
“IMAX is a part of this strategy – offering us a long-term competitive advantage that will help differentiate our sites from other multiplexes.”
