Developers St. Modwen is expected to submit a planning application for the site very soon.
The development is set for the derelict former cattle market next to the River Tone in the centre of Taunton. The scale of the investment will have a major impact on the regeneration of the Somerset town.
A St. Modwen spokesman said: “The revised Outline Planning Application for Firepool in Taunton is expected to be validated shortly and will then available to view on the Taunton Deane Borough Council planning portal.”
The St. Modwen website describes the developments as “a vital link in the chain of Taunton’s wider regeneration plans and one of the biggest mixed-use schemes in the region with the potential to create in excess of 1,800 jobs”.
Pete Davies, senior development manager for St. Modwen, said: “Following an extensive review process with the planning authority and relevant consultees, we have now reached this key point in delivering the mixed-use regeneration scheme at Firepool.
“We hope to secure planning consent in the summer which will enable development delivery preparations to move forward positively through 2017.
“Outline planning consent is the next essential key milestone in the delivery of Firepool, which is already under development on the South side of the river, with 49 new riverside homes completed alongside Pip’s Park and Viridor’s 27,000 sq ft office HQ building.
“Firepool is a critical link in the chain of Taunton’s wider town centre regeneration plans and one of the biggest mixed-use schemes in the region, with the potential to create in excess of 1,800 jobs.”
