Digital and 3D cinema market boom

The fourth quarter of 2011 saw more theatres converting to digital cinema in Western Europe as 1,943 screens went digital, recording the highest quarterly net gain for the year.

Another 541 digital screens were deployed in Central and Eastern Europe in the quarter, a total of 8,342 new digital screens were converted in 2011 – a new record up from 5,500 in 2010.

More than 18,500 digital screens are now active in Europe – 15,255 in Western Europe and 3,256 digital screens in Central and Eastern Europe.
