IMAX comes to Cineworld

Edinburgh is to get its first IMAX cinema under a deal with two major international firms.

The three-dimensional screen will be installed at the Cineworld complex at Fountainbridge, Edinburgh.

Cineworld in Fountainbridge plan to unveil its new facility next month. Lindsay Cook, Cineworld’s general manager, said to celebrate its opening it will be screening Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, from December 21, five days ahead of its general release in the UK.

The two companies will open cinemas in Nottingham and Sheffield once the Edinburgh project is complete, taking the total number of IMAX screens in the UK to 19.

IMAX chief executive Richard Gelfond said: “Cineworld is an ideal partner for IMAX as we expand our joint business in the UK.”
