| Aviva Premiership rugby union club Wasps is considering the possibility of building a second arena close to its current home |
Wasps purchased the Ricoh Arena in Coventry, England in November 2014. The club aims to “expand its footprint”, making its suite of facilities more enticing to people in the local area.
The second arena would act as an indoor sports and music facility, plans are at an early stage but the project could start within two or three years. The facility would include activities such as indoor surfing, trampolining and climbing.
The Ricoh Arena already has two hotels, a casino and large exhibition space. Wasps RFC and Coventry City FC play their home games at the stadium, however, only one third of the 1.4m people who visit the Ricoh attend for sporting reasons, meaning that most come for alternative functions.
