Leisure entrepreneur David Lloyd has secured planning for the first two locations of Adrenalin World, his new chain of multi-activity parks, which will host around 20 indoor and outdoor sports.
Locations for parks near Crewe and Chesterfield have received outline planning and submissions for full planning are currently being prepared.
A further seven sites in locations including Bedford, Dartford, Farnham and Braintree are in advanced financial negotiations.
An 18.5 acre site in Sandbach near Crewe is earmarked to be the first Adrenalin World to open and will comprise of a 40,000 sq ft indoor activity centre and two lakes to accommodate water sports. Construction is expected to begin in February and the facility will open around September.
The second site with outline planning is located south of Sheffield within the Peak Resort, a £400m leisure, health and sports development. Although a submission for full planning is being prepared, construction will not begin for 12 months to align with the development timetable of the resort.
In partnership with Holmes Investment Properties, Lloyd plans to roll out three completed parks every year for four years and to achieve his goal he wants start work on a new site every four months.
Beyond the four year timeline, the company sees the potential to open up to 80 Adrenalin World centres across the UK. “One of the biggest challenges we have faced is finding suitable sites,” said Lloyd, founder of David Lloyd’s Adventure Parks. “We are creating a non-seasonal model, a destination which caters for indoor and outdoor activities, and for that reason we need a minimum of five acres for each site.”
Space for outdoor activities can vary but each location will have a 40,000 sq ft activity centre. Each park will host around 20 activities including rock climbing, aerial obstacle courses, bungee jumping, and abseiling.
