Further images of the planned £250m leisure and entertainment development on Gateshead Quayside have been unveiled.
The proposed Gateshead Quays scheme, located between Sage Gateshead and the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, includes a new arena, conference and exhibition centre, two hotels, bars and restaurants across 4 hectares.
Striking images produced by architect HOK show the proposed layout of the complex, which could attract up to 300,000 visitors per year upon completion in 2023.
Led by a partnership between Gateshead Council, developer Ask Real Estate and property investor Patrizia, the project could add over 1,000 jobs and provide a £29m annual boost to the local economy.
The partnership is seeking £220m of investment to build the project. Gateshead Council had already committed to investing £25m.
Revealing the plans at the MIPIM event, council leader Martin Gannon described the development as a “game-changer” for the region.
The project has been identified by the government as one of the top Northern Powerhouse investment opportunities, taking its place in the Department for International Trade’s Capital Investment Portfolio alongside other major schemes.
