The number of casual dining restaurants in Britain declined last year for the first time in almost a decade, figures have shown.

The latest market growth monitor from CGA and Alix Partners, consultants, showed that the number of chain-run restaurants declined to 5,780 in December, which was an increase of 27.3 per cent on five years ago but down 0.1 per cent on December 2017 — the first fall for nine years…
