‘Key’ Leicester office block to include hotel, restaurant and gym

A new opening date has been revealed for Leicester’s latest office block. And the completion date for the offices at Great Central Square, in Vaughan Way, has been brought forward to this July.

When they are completed the No1 Great Central Square building will provide 33,000 sq ft of “Grade A” space for businesses relocating within the city or moving here.

It forms part of a huge £47 million scheme being built by Thurmaston developer Charles Street Buildings, which will include a 154-bed Novotel hotel and a six-storey Aparthotel Adagio, with 95 studio/one bed apartments.

The Novotel will have executive rooms and suites, a gym, banqueting facilities, meeting rooms and a ground floor bar and restaurant.

Charles Street Buildings is also creating public areas while the former Great Central Railway building at the back of the scheme is being brought back to life with shops and leisure facilities.

There will also be a new “super-crossing” linking to Highcross across the road.

The huge development is going up next to a £43 million executive flats block called The Wullcomb, being built by Leicester’s Sowden Group for an operator called Way of Life.

The first tenants will be able to move into the 297 apartment complex later this summer. It will also feature a shared rooftop terrace with a wood-fired pizza oven, barbecue space and views over the city.

He said: “No 1 Great Central Square is such a key development for Leicester.

“The site exceeds occupiers’ demands in terms of office accommodation in a modern thriving city centre.

“Construction is ahead of schedule and the completion date has moved forward.

“This is great news given the overwhelmingly positive response and strong interest from potential occupiers received to date.

“Interested parties are reacting to the clear advantages this location offers, not to mention the fantastic facilities and working environment offered.

“Its completion will create a gateway between the city and the Waterside, and tenants will benefit from the nearby Highcross shopping centre and fantastic transport links to the rail station, motorway network, and nearby airports.”
