Plymouth awaits 12-screen cinema complex with 14 restaurants

A sneak preview of Plymouth’s new Cineworld has been revealed – and it looks like customers are in for a real treat.

Plymouth’s £53million multiplex development is rapidly taking shape and will see the cinema seats go in next month.

It is going to be officially named The Barcode – because it looks just like one.

The huge Drake Circus Leisure development, at Bretonside, is close to being ready for the shopfitting teams to move in and equip the movie screen auditoriums and restaurants, ready for opening to the public in October 2019.

The photos, posted on Cineworld Plymouth’s Facebook page, show plush inside lighting and a large food and drinks counter.

The international cinema company will have thousands of seats in 12 screening rooms, including the vast IMAX screen which will have a curved and tiered auditorium.

Above the IMAX screen, will be the hotly anticipated skybar, boasting some of the best view in the city.

What was Bretonside’s coach park and the inside coach station, previously home to nightclubs and cafes, will become the first two tiers of a 420-space car park.

While another block there will be many of the 14 new restaurant.

Names set to move in include Zizzi and Cosy Club – and the venue will even boast an indoor golf attraction courtesy of Paradise Island Adventure Golf.

However the city was dealt a blow after it was revealed in June 2019 that Wagamama and Frankie and Benny’s had ditched plans to open in the 12-screen cinema complex.

The search has already begun for 350 new workers to staff the immense leisure centre.
