Alabama: Birmingham’s first indie cinema to open in landmark centre

Bayer Properties has added a distinctive entertainment option to its redevelopment of the historic Pizitz Building in downtown Birmingham. The Sidewalk Film Center and Cinema, which opened in September, is the city’s first cinema specializing in independent films. The 11,400-sq.-ft. venue features two 95-seat screening rooms, a lounge area with a full-service bar and concession menu, and spaces to host Sidewalk’s educational and outreach programs. Planning chiefs will next week consider the third set of proposals to come forward in recent years for the transformation of Blackpool’s Grade II listed former main Post Office. The latest blueprint for the historic building on Abingdon Street would see a 102-bedroom hotel built on the site along with shops, a bar and a restaurant. Shopping centre developer launches flagship hotel in Leeds

Hammerson, which owns and manages Victoria Leeds, has submitted plans for a new 205-bed hotel adjacent to its retail and leisure destination, Victoria Gate.
