Rhyl: community cinema group to expand in 2020

BIG plans are underway for the Little Theatre’s community cinema in 2020.

Following a successful 2019, the Wicked Cinema group is set to expand again in its third year.

This year, the Wicked group grew from two cinemas to five to include the Wicked Family and Cult cinemas, as well as a Sing-a-Long cinema for people with dementia and the Stand Against Violence Initiative – working alongside West Rhyl Young People’s Project, Brighter Futures Rhyl and North Wales Police – and Hashtag cinema.

Rhiannon Wyn Hughes, who helps run the cinemas, said: “It has been the most wonderful year, hard work, but the people who come to our cinemas really appreciate what we are trying to do.

“We have been so lucky to have such great volunteers making people feel very welcome and as the young people move on we are looking for even more volunteers next year.”

As well as support from a continually growing audience, the Wicked Cinema has benefitted from funding from Children in Need, Ffilm Cymru Wales and Film Hub Wales and support from the Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council…
