New stand approved for Old Trafford cricket ground
Councillors have approved plans for a new 5,000 seat capacity stand at Old Trafford cricket ground in Manchester.
Trafford Council’s planning and development management committee granted consent for the BDP-designed grandstand on Brian Statham Way in Manchester.
Old Trafford hosts England cricket internationals as well as Lancashire fixtures in the County Championship Division One and – from this summer – Hundred outfit Manchester Originals.
The approved project will increase the permanent capacity of the historic venue by more than 3,000 seats to about 22,500. This is boosted further by temporary stands for big games.
Although the existing Red Rose Suite will be demolished, removing 1,355 seats, the new grandstand will have a larger capacity of 4,935.
As well as spectator seats, the new stand will contain retail floorspace, a club museum and a ticket office as well as a members’ suite and food and drink serving areas for use on match days…
