Plans approved for new leisure facility north of Belfast

The thumbs up has been given for the development of an extensive new leisure and activities facility on the site of a former Toys ‘R’ Us store in Newtownabbey.

Brought forward by JHT Property Development, the plans involve the change of use from retail to leisure with a new first floor mezzanine in order to accommodate the new indoor leisure facility, which will be operated by Airtastic.

Airtastic currently operate four entertainment centres at Bangor, Cork, Belfast Westwood Centre and Craigavon.

Measuring approximately 48,000 sq ft of indoor floor space, the new facility will provide inflatables, a ninja park, trampoline park, bowling, adventure golf, amusements, as well as an ancillary café/restaurant.  The proposal makes use of the existing access from Mill Road and the current provision of 192 car parking spaces.  

The new centre is part of Airtastic’s plans for new facilities in Newtonabbey and Craigavon, representing an investment of £3m, which is expected to create up to 80 new jobs…
