With plots in short supply, experts look to airspace to solve London’s housing crisis — much to residents’ horror
Land is expensive and spare plots to build on are in short supply in London, begging the question of how we can build the homes our growing population needs.
Building out is restricted by the green belt, while filling gaps in the city is effective but limited.
So what about building up?
Some experts estimate rooftop builds or “airspace development” could support 630,000 homes on the roofs of London’s municipal buildings, while others agree that these untapped spaces are one more way the capital can meet the urgent demand for housing.
