Sporting overhaul planned for prominent Rochdale site
Located next to the 200,000 sq ft Rochdale Riverside shopping and entertainment complex, the town’s former Mecca Bingo is to be converted into an indoor sports centre.
A planning application to overhaul the bingo hall, located on the corner of Smith Street and Milton Street, has been submitted to Rochdale Council by Richard Tracz, who is the founder and director of R-Kix, a youth football coaching company.
The building, vacant since last summer after 20 years as a bingo hall and owned by the council, would be stripped out.
A planning statement prepared by Plan8 states that the applicant wants to provide four football pitches for small-sided games, a running track, four practice cricket lanes, and a gymnasium.
