Manchester: school planned to displace “landmark” multiplex

Bosses at a cinema chain Showcase say they want to open a new ‘state of the art’ theatre in Manchester – after plans for a new school on their current site at Belle Vue were revealed. Council papers published this week show Manchester council wants to buy the site in Gorton – which is understood to have been put up for sale – and use part of the land build a new 1,200 place secondary school.
