Sefton greenlights £73m Southport events centre

The council is eyeing a 2026 delivery of the Marine Lakes Event Centre following its approval yesterday, which is expected to generate an annual £18m boost for the local economy. The banner project of the council’s £37m Town Deal will see the redevelopment of the former Southport Theatre to deliver the 103,000 sq ft complex on Southport’s promenade. Approval would see the company behind the Lounge and Cosy Club brands convert the grade two-listed bank off Churchyardside Street in Nantwich to create a café bar. Proposals for the 5,400 sq ft space include the installation of a bar, kitchen, and toilets to create Navio Lounge – the fourth addition to the Lounge chain in Cheshire. Southport Pleasureland unveils next step in £4.7m investment

The amusement park is eyeing a June opening date for Discovery Bay, a 67,000 sq ft area featuring six new rides and a themed outdoor festival.
